HIGH IN ATL

Couple months ago, we stopped by the High Museum of Art in Atlanta.

Matt and Ryan and I were out there filming for Pirelli and on our way back to the airport we had a couple of hours to kill. Pulled up the New York Times' "36 Hours in Atlanta" feature and figured the High sounded like a good way to spend the afternoon.

On the top floor they had this weird mirrored half dome sculpture - kind of cool though.

They also had some KAWS stuff on display.

And this impromptu portrait reenactment was of course the highlight of the day. To be honest, it took us about 6 tries just to get it to this point. We almost had it down exactly except Ryan got impatient with us, after the first 10 minutes, and refused to continue snapping further attempts. (Real Pageant of the Masters-ish, right?)

Anyway, picked up a couple cool posters from the gift store as well - definitely a good time. Next time you're down south, check it out. New York Times Recommended and 0484 Approved :)

THE PIKES PEAK 2012 VID

Ducati x 0484 x ID Agency - all over again.

First off, apologies for the tragic lack of updates over the past couple weeks. Schedule has gotten even more insane than usual. We're in the midst of filming over 20 videos in a 5 week span, in 5 different states. So yeah, I'm about to put an autoresponder on my email for the next 3 weeks or so (It will just say 'Check back in mid-October to see if we're still alive) Anyway, back to the blog, a few behind-the-scenes flicks from our time in Colorado Springs last month. Ryan and Matt and Petra and I were out there, filming everyday starting before dawn, for a week :) Wouldn't have been as bad if the McDonalds near our hotel was open 24/7 - Sausage McMuffins are usually my early morning crutch.

Climbed down this mountain, carrying gear, one day to get a shot. That's Ryan way up there against the rail. Felt pretty Bear Grylls-ish by the time I made it to the bottom without spraining an ankle.

14K feet high, some incredible views.

Our homies Carlin Dunne and Greg Tracy were riding for the Ducati team this year. Filming Pikes this year, opposed to last year, was completely different in that we knew what to expect this time around and we had already worked with Greg and Carlin and everyone from Ducati so much since last Summer - made our lives way easier. Sidenote, as Ducati is now part of the Audi family, Audi supplied Greg and Carlin with fleet vehicles - so they pushed an S5 and Q7 all around Colorado Springs for the week - no big deal.

Probably the most epic snapshot I've taken on my iPhone - Matt and Ryan filming overlooking one of the steepest drops at Pikes Peak called Bottomless Pit.

Ducati brought out a killer still photographer from North Carolina named Jamey Price. Jamey quickly became our new best friend and we hung out all week together, woke up at 2AM, binged on 7-11 donuts and beef jerky, napped in the car, ate lunch at CPK together, talked a bunch of 'Nikon vs Canon' nerd trash talk - the usual male bonding type of stuff.

*This photo is weird because we're standing on a bunch of rocks and it mistakenly makes me appear much shorter than my true-to-life 6'2" height.

Last year we made a 15-minute long short film complete with interviews and a narrator - it got over 100K views online and became Ducati North America's most popular YouTube video. However this year they asked for a 2-minute spot with just music. They're the boss. Here's the vid, enjoy.

DOUBLE LOOP DARE VID

Here's the final edit for the Hot Wheels X Games spot we produced.

Just finished this 2-minute recap for the seat maker Recaro on behalf of The ID Agency. This was a cool project and the vid turned out nicely. Mattel gave us access to some of their helicopter coverage and other footage which was cool.

Shout out to Greg and Tanner for all their cooperation and making our jobs easy.

New random gear from around the office.

TELECOMM:

I got Matt this Aluminum Elevation iPhone dock from Kickstarter at Christmas. Although it just finally came in the mail the other day (from my previous, albeit limited, experiences, stuff from Kickstarter takes forever). Cool dock though - nice quality.

Native Union Pop Phone Handset (Batphone Red). The whole product seems a bit gimmicky - which it is - but it does really make the experience of talking on your cell phone a lot better. (Plus they're fun and they're only like $18 on Amazon)

FINE ART:

Snagged this print of Penguins in Antarctica from a Travel Photographer named Steven Krupnick down at the Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach a couple weeks ago.

Thanks to John P and Stan from Toyo for getting us signed copies of this poster we helped work on for Anthony Pettis.

When we were out in Colorado last week, we became new best friends with this young photographer from North Carolina named Jamey Price. Jamey was shooting stills for Ducati so we basically hung out and worked together all week. On raceday Jamey printed some enlargements of a couple of shots of the riders and had them sign copies of the prints for us which was cool.

LITERATURE:

New Dream Team book - I actually still have yet to watch the documentary, it's on my Tivo (along with the last 6 months or so of shows and sporting events that I'm behind on).

Undftd had an end of season sale - everything 40% off. No brainer.

New Oakley Holbrooks. These come in a ton of colorways - took me about a month to decide before I just went the safe route - matte black and grey.

BACK TO BACK CHAMP

Our big brother Carlin Dunne just set another record at Pikes Peak.

From Ducati Santa Barbara, reppin the 805, Carlin came in with an all time motorcycle record of 9:52. Also breaking the 10 minute barrier, Greg Tracy posted an equally impressive 9:58 and the Ducati team finished 1st and 2nd. These guys are honestly so chill to work with and professional beyond belief.

They're both super banged up so the fact that they ran at all is a testament to how unbelievably tough these guys are. (Perhaps we've been rubbing off on them?) A week ago, Greg filmed this commercial along with Audi and wrecked the bike into a wall at 80mph - he literally shrugged off an epic combination of injuries that would have put others into retirement and came back out here and ran full speed.

Anyway, race is actually still going on at the moment. Petra is at the top of the mountain filming finish line coverage, our new BFF Jamey is roaming around the mountiain taking photos and I'm at the base of the mountain and Ducati camp. We have another 6 shooters filming for us tucked on the side of this mountain with nothing but cameras and backpacks full of snacks. There have been a ridiculous amount of delays - quite a few cars have driven off the mountain and crashed and have had to be airlifted out of here. And as if that wasn't interesting enough, it's recently started hailing/snowing.

We woke up at 1:30AM today (it's 6:30PM now). Our freelance shooters have been stranded on the mountain since 6AM. If they had cell signal, which they don't, I'm sure they'd be texting me death threats by now. There's currently no end in sight to the race. You've got to love Pikes Peak.

Last time we filmed here was a huge opportunity for us. This time we know a little more what to expect. Should be fun. Or at least an adventure.

TOYO TIRES UFC SHOOT

We helped out with a little MMA photoshoot a couple weeks ago.

Our boy John P was photographing the UFC fighter Anthony Pettis and Strikeforce heavyweight Josh Barnett for Toyo Tires.

Matt knows Anthony Pettis because he's a die-hard UFC fan. I only know about him because I saw him on MTV's World of Jenks one time. Cool guy though, very chill and easy to work with. He lives in Milwaukee and flew in just for a few hours - came straight from LAX to the gym in Fullerton where we shot and then he went directly back to the airport to fly home - kind of crazy.

We shot Anthony doing his his signature "Showtime" kick where he jumps off the fence. It's a pretty legit move.

Then we shot some stuff with Josh Barnett. We grabbed lunch with John and Josh after the shoot - we let Josh choose the spot and I thought we might go grab steaks or burgers or something but he took us to a teahouse where we drank tea and had salads - seriously.

At the end of the shoot Anthony actually climbed into the boxing ring with Stan from Toyo and they sparred for awhile. It was fun to watch up close. Anthony just sort of went at half speed but Stan was not as bad as you'd think for a guy who works in a tire company office all day.

ATLIENS

Flew down to Georgia a couple weeks ago.

The ID Agency sent Matt and Ryan and I down south to go film with Pirelli for a week.

Pirelli lent us this conference room for the day for us to work out of.

We filmed a tour of their facility in Rome, GA. It's actually one of the most advanced tire factories in the world - it's filled with robots who construct their high end tires around the clock. Wish I could show more pictures but it was pretty cool - super high tech setup where a series of giant robots pass the tires down the assembly line.

Anyway, later in the week we went out to Atlanta Motorsports Park and filmed some on-track tire testing.

Pirelli brought a bunch of their staff out and tested their tires on several different sportscars - Porsches, Lotus', Benzes, that type of thing.

At one point, we hopped into the back of an SUV and a driving instructor drove us in front of former Formula 1 driver Derek Daly, in this Carrera, and we filmed some shots of him on the track. It was hot and super humid, and pretty nauseating getting tossed around the back of the Ford Escape but we got some really great footage of Derek driving.

Wednesday night was crunch time - we locked ourselves into this room at the Hampton Inn and cut 3 days of footage down to a little 4 minute edit.

We had a ton of stuff to go through, including about a dozen interviews, but all 3 of us worked all night and knocked it out. We delivered the vid Thursday at noon and everyone at Pirelli seemed to enjoy it.

Anyway, hectic trip but definitely a good time. Glad we survived the week's worth of thunder storms and got everything done on deadline. Shout out to The ID Agency and of course everyone at Pirelli who made the project fun.

CCS AM PROJECT SPOT

We threw this together this week for the skate retailer CCS.

I drew most of the pictures but Matt did the hard work and made it all move around and such. It was fun to work on - we've been wanting to do something similar to this for awhile.

HOTWHEELS STUNT AT XGAMES

Went out and filmed the HotWheels Double Loop Dare at XGames last week.

We're putting together a little video for Recaro for the The ID Agency.

Ryan and I went to Mattel HQ over in El Segundo on Friday for a little pre-stunt press junket type of thing. We got to tour the Mattel offices and learn all sorts of HotWheels secrets. We saw how all the toys are developed and tested and stuff.

We did interviews with both drivers. Got to catch up with the big homie Greg Tracy and chat about the wildfires in Colorado that postponed Pikes Peak are were wreaking havoc on both our Summer schedules.

Met Tanner Foust for the first time - super chill dude, great to work with.

Anyway on Saturday, Matt and Shane and I got up at dawn and made the trek up to Downtown LA.

The place was packed with XGames athletes and fans and camera crews and stuff.

We got all our cameras in place and just waited for the whole thing to go down. The stunt was no joke - the loop was a World Record 6-stories tall and everything was broadcast live on ABC.

Of course Greg and Tanner made it look easy and everything went off without a hitch.

After the stunt was wrapped, security actually let us up onto the loop. Matt and Shane grabbed some cool b-roll shots while I snapped photos for Instagram.

Anyway, very cool project - it was nice to go out and film at the XGames. Our recap vid should be done in a couple weeks. Until then, just wait on the edge of your seats, thanks.
